Pear Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
In October 2023, the average pear export price amounted to $1,528 per ton, picking up by 9.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable increase from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, pear export price decreased by -21.9% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 17% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,956 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($2,461 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($849 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pear Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average pear import price amounted to $1,506 per ton, picking up by 14% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated notable growth from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, pear import price increased by +14.2% against September 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 28% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,029 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($2,876 per ton), while the price for China totaled $1,483 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pear Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, shipments abroad of pears was finally on the rise to reach 397K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, pear exports stood at $434M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 34%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
