Margarine and Shortening Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average margarine and shortening export price amounted to $1,862 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 5.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $2,578 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($2,648 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($1,297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Margarine and Shortening Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2023
The average margarine and shortening import price stood at $3,292 per ton in August 2023, declining by -10.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,236 per ton. From April 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($3,310 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,313 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Margarine and Shortening Exports in Ukraine
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of margarine and shortening decreased by -55.7% to 24K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 7.7%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 54K tons, and then dropped notably in the following year.
In value terms, margarine and shortening exports reduced notably to $53M in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $83M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
