Lentil Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2023
The average lentil import price stood at $1,013 per ton in July 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 24% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,260 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($1,086 per ton), while the price for Bahrain ($882 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Lentil Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average lentil export price amounted to $1,266 per ton, increasing by 28% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $1,589 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lesotho ($2,082 per ton), while the average price for exports to Swaziland ($962 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Imports in South Africa
