Lentil Price in Portugal (CIF) - 2023
The average lentil import price stood at $1,477 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,539 per ton in May 2023, and then contracted slightly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($3,344 per ton), while the price for Canada ($1,151 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Price in Portugal (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average lentil export price amounted to $1,419 per ton, dropping by -6.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 35% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,515 per ton in May 2023, and then declined in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Spain ($1,685 per ton) and Belgium ($1,644 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,315 per ton) and Cabo Verde ($1,428 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Portugal recorded growth in overseas purchases of lentils, which increased by 84% to 3.8K tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Lentil Exports in Portugal
