Lentil Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
The average lentil import price stood at $1,370 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -11.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,544 per ton in May 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,908 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,091 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average lentil export price amounted to $2,318 per ton, growing by 2.4% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 30% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($3,577 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,465 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Imports in Germany
In 2022, overseas purchases of lentils decreased by -19.3% to 31K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 44K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lentil imports contracted to $43M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -4.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $45M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Lentil Exports in Germany
In 2022, shipments abroad of lentils decreased by -26.9% to 4.8K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 10%.
In value terms, lentil exports fell to $9.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $11M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
