Honey Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average honey import price stood at $2,539 per ton in October 2023, with an increase of 4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 5.1% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,349 per ton. From December 2022 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($4,721 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,272 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Honey Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average honey export price stood at $3,116 per ton in October 2023, surging by 2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 25% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,538 per ton. From July 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($8,498 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,427 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Honey Imports in the United States

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of honey, when their volume decreased by -6.5% to 206K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 220K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, honey imports surged to $732M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
