The average glass fibre filament import price stood at $3,380 per ton in 2022, dropping by -12.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $3,851 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($18,600 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,279 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+34.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Glass Fibre Filament Imports in Cameroon
For the fourth year in a row, Cameroon recorded growth in purchases abroad of glass fibre filaments, which increased by 2.6% to 758 kg in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 5.1%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, glass fibre filament imports dropped to $2.6K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +23.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +87.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 67%.

2020 was a serious test for the glass fibre market. The fall in production was extreme in April 2020. Still, demand began to recover in the second half of the year thanks to a recovery in the composite consumer goods sector.
