Flax Fiber Price in France (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average flax fiber export price amounted to $5,389 per ton, picking up by 4.6% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, flax fiber export price increased by +141.8% against August 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 26% m-o-m. The export price peaked in July 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($6,670 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($3,416 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Flax Fiber Price in France (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average flax fiber import price amounted to $2,412 per ton, dropping by -35.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 53% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,737 per ton, and then plummeted in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($3,177 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($1,865 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. 184K tons of flax fiber were exported from France; picking up by 5.8% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, flax fiber exports surged to $576M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Flax Fiber Imports in France
In 2022, overseas purchases of flax fiber decreased by -37.6% to 5.2K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 198%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 8.3K tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.
