In August 2023, the average flakes; of potatoes import price amounted to $2,096 per ton, dropping by -9.1% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,427 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($3,411 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,863 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average flakes; of potatoes export price amounted to $2,160 per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($4,714 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($1,838 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of flakes; of potatoeses, when their volume decreased by -2.1% to 2.4K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 19%.

In value terms, flakes; of potatoes imports expanded significantly to $4M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the last three years.
