In December 2021, the average ester gums import price amounted to $1,834 per ton, growing by 5.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2021 an increase of 18% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,038 per ton in April 2021; however, from May 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,098 per ton), while the price for China ($1,542 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average ester gums export price stood at $1,930 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 46%. The export price peaked at $2,966 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($3,065 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($925 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
