Cocoa Butter Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
The average cocoa butter import price stood at $6,375 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 2% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.3% m-o-m. The import price peaked in August 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($6,494 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($6,343 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cocoa Butter Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average cocoa butter export price amounted to $8,461 per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 17% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in August 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Estonia ($9,280 per ton) and Germany ($9,072 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($6,650 per ton) and Spain ($8,022 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cocoa Butter Imports in Belgium
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of cocoa butter, when their volume decreased by -14.9% to 107K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year.
In value terms, cocoa butter imports dropped significantly to $506M in 2022. In general, imports showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 17%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $679M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Cocoa Butter Exports in Belgium
In 2022, shipments abroad of cocoa butter decreased by -66.7% to 4.4K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 410%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 18K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cocoa butter exports shrank significantly to $29M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 356%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $105M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
