Chicken Meat Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2023
The average chicken meat import price stood at $1,204 per ton in June 2023, reducing by -34.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 34% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,836 per ton in May 2023, and then fell markedly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($2,135 per ton), while the price for the United States stood at $1,101 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-1.6%).
Chicken Meat Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2022
The average chicken meat export price stood at $1,041 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,244 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,354 per ton), while the average price for exports to Angola ($463 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chicken Meat Imports in Mexico
In 2022, overseas purchases of chicken meat decreased by -2.4% to 751K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 98% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 770K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, chicken meat imports rose remarkably to $967M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
