Beer Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023
The average beer export price stood at $884 per thousand litres in July 2023, declining by -3.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1.2 per litre in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1.9 per litre), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($753 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average beer import price amounted to $1.7 per litre, growing by 1.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.1% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1.7 per litre in July 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($3.1 per litre), while the price for China ($1.1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Exports in Japan
In 2022, the amount of beer exported from Japan surged to 76M litres, growing by 32% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The exports peaked at 90M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, beer exports skyrocketed to $82M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $84M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Beer Imports in Japan
Beer imports into Japan soared to 47M litres in 2022, with an increase of 16% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
