Overall, the total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +61.6% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Production By Country

The country with the largest volume of accordion production was China (26M units), comprising approx. 67% of total volume. Moreover, accordion production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Indonesia (10M units), threefold. Germany (702K units) ranked third in terms of total production with a 1.8% share.

In China, accordion production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+1.0% per year) and Germany (-0.1% per year).

Imports

In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, Portugal, Turkey and Argentina increased by +5, +4.1, +3.4 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($145M) constitutes the largest market for imported accordions and mouth organs worldwide, comprising 28% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($52M), with a 10% share of global imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7.9% share.

Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at 31M units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, accordion exports rose rapidly to $541M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The global exports peaked at $576M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China dominates exports structure, resulting at 14M units, which was near 72% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (1.8M units), achieving a 9.7% share of total exports. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-2.2%), Germany (-4.7%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.3%) and Indonesia (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+9.6 p.p.) and France (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Indonesia saw its share reduced by -14.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($113M), Germany ($87M) and Japan ($83M) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of global exports.

Among the main exporting countries, China, with a CAGR of +1.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

The average accordion export price stood at $29 per unit in 2022, which is down by -7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
